The Pastor's Wife

Dear Pastor’s Wife,

I am writing you as a “fellow pastor’s wife”. I know that being the wife of a pastor can sometimes be an interesting thing. I LOVE being a pastor’s wife, BUT there are days when I feel like I am totally alone, and that there’s NO ONE else who would understand and NO ONE that I feel like I can talk to.

I have told many people that pastor’s wives are in a unique position. I mean after all, if your husband (the pastor) is being a “bozo”, who do you talk to? (he’s the “pastor”) If your finances are in trouble who do talk to? (the people who are paying you?) If you are having trouble with your kids, who do you talk to (shouldn’t you be an exemplary example as a parent, and your kids be angels?), etc., etc.

I remember a number of years ago as a young pastor’s wife, I was attending a conference. They had all of the Pastors stand, and then they had all of the lay people stand. I just sat there. I wasn’t a pastor, but I didn’t feel like a lay person either. I remember being quite depressed at the time, and there have been times since when I felt like I didn’t know where I fit.

That brings me to why I am writing this letter to you. I would like to have some kind of support system for the Kansas City area pastor’s wives. Yes, I know that there are also some men out there who are spouses of pastors, and they perhaps need a separate support system, but at the moment I would like to begin with the wives.

We are hoping that this web page will be one way to let you know that you are not alone, and a place to be able to share some ideas and areas of support for you.

We are going to make this support system a part of our KC Women’s Ministries.

We would also like you to feel free to email any of your ideas, thoughts, or “things you have learned as a pastor’s wife” to us. We will share some of them on this web page.

Here is a link to an article from Focus on the Family, and at the right are links to some websites for Pastor’s wives. I hope that they will be an encouragement for you.

Blessing on you!!!

Jody
